Setting availability so your day does not get shredded
Publishing your hours honestly is not the same as publishing every hour you are technically free.
Publish less than you have
The instinct is to open everything so nobody is turned away. What that produces is one booking at 9am, one at 2pm and one at 4:30pm, and a day where you cannot start anything properly. Offering fewer, clustered slots gets you the same number of bookings in a shape you can actually work.
Leave a buffer either side
Travel, notes, overrun. A back-to-back diary with no gaps is a diary that runs late from the second appointment onwards, and running late does more damage to how people rate you than being busy ever does.
Set a minimum notice
Without one, somebody books you for twenty minutes' time while you are up a ladder. A day's notice is right for most trades, an hour or two for anything walk-in.
Cap how far ahead people can book
Letting someone book eight months out sounds like good business and is mostly a future no-show. Four to six weeks is enough for almost everyone, and it keeps the far end of your diary free for work that has not appeared yet.
